Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀪𑀝𑁆𑀞 (bhaṭṭha) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀇𑀓𑀸- (-ikā-), from Sanskrit भ्रष्ट्र (bhráṣṭra), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *bʰráṣṭram, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *bʰráštram, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰréǵ-trom, from *bʰerǵ ~ *bʰreǵ (“to roast, fry”). Cognate with Bengali ভাটি (bhaṭi), Hindi भट्ठी (bhaṭṭhī), Rajasthani भट्टी (bhaṭṭī), Sindhi بَٺُ / बठु (baṭhu).
