Borrowed from Classical Persian پرده (parda), from Middle Persian pltk' (pardag), ultimately from Proto-Iranian *partakah, from *partah, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *paltas, from Proto-Indo-European *pol-tos, from *pel- (“to cover, wrap”). Doublet of પટ (paṭ). Compare Bengali পর্দা (porda), Hindustani پردہ / परदा (pardā), Malayalam പർദ്ദ (paṟdda).
