Inherited from Prakrit 𑀳𑀝𑁆𑀝 m (haṭṭa), 𑀳𑀝𑁆𑀝𑀻 f (haṭṭī), from Sanskrit हट्ट (haṭṭa). Cognate with Old Hindi हाट (hāṭa), Old Gujarati हाट (hāṭa), Old Marathi 𑘮𑘰𑘘 (hāṭa), Middle Bengali হাট (haṭ).
