Inherited from Prakrit 𑀓𑀟𑁆𑀠𑀇 (kaḍḍhaï), from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀓𑀟𑁆𑀠𑀢𑀺 (*kaḍḍhati, to pull, draw). Compare Old Hindi काढना (kāḍhanā), Old Gujarati काढी (kāḍhī, taken out, past participle, nominative feminine singular), Old Marathi 𑘎𑘰𑘛𑘜𑘹 (kāḍhaṇe), 𑘎𑘰𑘮𑘰𑘚𑘜𑘹 (kāhāḍaṇe).
