সমস্যা
Bengali
Etymology
Learned borrowing from Sanskrit समस्या (samasyā, “incomplete thing to be completed”, literally “that which is thrown together (to complete)”), from सम्- (sam-) + अस् (as, “to throw”) + -य (-ya). Compare the similar semantics in Ancient Greek πρόβλημα (próblēma, “obstacle”, literally “that which is thrown forward”) (whence English problem). Cognate with Hindi समस्या (samasyā), Nepali समस्या (samasyā)
