Inherited from Prakrit 𑀫𑀁𑀟𑀮𑀺 (maṃḍali), from Sanskrit मण्डलिन् (maṇḍalin, literally possessor of the territory), from मण्डल (maṇḍala, circle, group, territory) + -इन् (-in, possessive suffix).[1][2] Doublet of মণ্ডল (monḍol).
