Etymology
From মেদিনী (medinī), from Middle Bengali মাদানী (madani, “Medinan”) which is ultimately from Arabic مَدَنِيّ (madaniyy), + পুর (pur, “city”), from Sanskrit पुर (pura). Named after the 17th-century scholar Haji Mustafa Madani.[1]
