Borrowed from Classical Persian فیروزه (firoza), Arabized form from پیروزه (piruza), from Middle Persian *pērōzag, from 𐭯𐭩𐭫𐭥𐭰 (pērōz, “victorious”). Doublet of পারভেজ (parbhej) and ফাইরুজ (phairuj). Cognate with Indonesian pirus, Romanian peruzea and Ukrainian бірюза́ (birjuzá).
