Inherited from Prakrit 𑀢𑀺𑀓𑁆𑀔 (tikkha) with -𑀟 (-ḍa), from Sanskrit তীক্ষ্ণ (tīkṣṇa, “sharp, hot, keen”), from Proto-Indo-European *(s)tig-s-nó-s, from *(s)teyg- (“to be sharp”); with an unexplained lengthening of the first vowel.
