Etymology
From Ashokan Prakrit *𑀞𑀻𑀓𑁆𑀓 (*ṭhīkka), ultimately from Sanskrit स्थित (sthita, “situated; firm”).
Doublet of ঠিকানা (ṭhikana, “address”) and স্থিত (sthito, “fixed, located”). Also related to থাকা (thaka, “to live, stay”), থানা (thana, “police station”), ঠাঁই (ṭhãi, “place”), থালা (thala, “plate”), স্থল (sthol, “ground, land”), স্থাপন (sthapon, “placing”), স্থাপত্য (sthapotto, “architecture”), স্থান (sthan, “place”), and -স্তান (-stan).
