Learned borrowing from Sanskrit गान (gāna). Doublet of গাওয়া (gaōẇa, “to sing”), গায়ক (gaẏok, “singer”), গাথা (gatha, “verse, ballad, story”), গীত (git, “song”), গীতা (gita, “Gita”) and সংগীত (śoṅgit, “music, melody”).
