Borrowed from Classical Persian (xʷuš, xʷaš), which is from Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (xwš /⁠xwaš⁠/, “pleasant, sweet, nice”). Cognate with Baluchi and Turkish hoş. Compare Hindustani ख़ुश / خوش (xuś). Related to খুশি (khuśi), খুশবু (khuśbu).
