Etymology
Borrowed from Bengali হিন্দুত্ব (hindutto /hindutto/). Coined by Chandranath Basu in his 1892 work হিন্দুত্ব-হিন্দুর প্রকৃত ইতিহাস (hindutbô-hindur prôkŕtô itihas /hindutto-hindur prokrito itihaś/) and then further popularised by Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Equivalent to हिंदू (hindū) + -त्व (-tva).
