Etymology
Borrowed from Classical Persian همسایه (hamsāya). By surface analysis, हम- (ham-, “same”) + साया (sāyā, “shade”). Compare Punjabi ਹਮਸਾਇਆ (hamsāiā) / ہمسایہ (hmsāyh).
