From Proto-Indo-Aryan *Hsuśráwas, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hsućráwas, from *Hsu- (“good”) + *ćráwas (“fame”). Equivalent to सु- (su-, “good”) + श्रवस् (śrávas, “fame”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬵𐬀𐬊𐬯𐬭𐬀𐬎𐬎𐬀𐬢𐬵𐬀 (haosrauuaŋha, “mythical figure”) (from an unattested *𐬵𐬎𐬯𐬭𐬀𐬎𐬎𐬀 (*husrauua)), Ancient Greek εὐκλεής (eukleḗs).
