Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *h₂wl(o)p- (“fox”). Cognate with Latin vulpes, Ancient Greek ἀλώπηξ (alṓpēx), Persian روباه (rubâh) and Lithuanian lãpė. Also compare लोपाश (lopāśa, “fox”).
