Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀮𑀝𑁆𑀞𑀺 (laṭṭhi), from Prakrit [script needed] (*laṣṭi), perhaps from a portmanteau of Sanskrit लकुट (lakuṭa, “a club”) + यष्टि (yaṣṭi, “(memorial) pillar”).[1][2]
