From Prakrit 𑀮𑀓𑁆𑀓𑀼𑀟- (lakkuḍa-), from an unattested [script needed] (*lakkuṭa), related to Sanskrit लकुट (lakuṭa, “club”). Compare Gujarati લાકડું (lākḍũ, “wood”), Marathi लाकूड (lākūḍ, “wood”).
