Directly borrowed from Sanskrit भारी (bhārī) or inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit *𑀪𑀸𑀭𑀺𑀕 (*bhāriga), from Sanskrit भारिक (bhārika, heavy).[1] By surface analysis, भार (bhār) + -ई ().
