Borrowed from Northwestern Indo-Aryan (whence Punjabi ਭੱਠ (bhaṭṭha, “furnace”)), from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀪𑀝𑁆𑀞 (bhaṭṭha), from Sanskrit भ्रष्ट्र (bhraṣṭra).
