Borrowed from Braj बाँसुरी (bā̃surī), ultimately from Sanskrit वंशी (vaṃśī, “flute”). Largely displaced native बाँसली (bā̃slī). Cognate to Gujarati વાંસળી (vā̃saḷī), Bengali বাঁশি (bãśi), Assamese বাঁহী (bãhi).
