Inherited from Old Marathi बहिर (bahira), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀩𑀳𑀺𑀭 (bahira), from Sanskrit बधिर (badhira). Compare with Konkani भेड्डो (bheḍḍo) and Hindi बहरा (bahrā).
