Cognate with Younger Avestan 𐬁𐬟𐬭𐬍𐬥𐬀𐬌𐬙𐬌 (āfrīnaiti), Old English frēoġan (to love), English free and friend, Proto-Slavic *prijati (whence Serbo-Croatian пријати, prijati (to be pleasing), Polish sprzyjać (to favor), Old Church Slavonic приꙗти (prijati, to please, accept) (Glagolitic spelling ⱂⱃⰹⱑⱅⰹ (priěti))).
