Borrowed from Classical Persian نوجوان (nawjawān), from نو (naw, “new”) + جوان (jawān, “young”). By surface analysis, नौ- (nau-, “new”) + जवान (javān, “young”); see नया (nayā, “new”) and युवा (yuvā, “young”) for the inherited doublets of each component.
