Cognate with Persian تنجیدن (tanjidan, “to squeeze, twist”), Old Armenian թանձր (tʻanjr, “thick, dense”), English tight, Old Norse þéttr (“close, thick”), Old Irish técht (“solidified”), Lithuanian tánkus (“thick, dense”).
