Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀘𑁄𑀧𑁆𑀧 (*coppa). Compare Gujarati ચોપવું (copvũ), Nepali चुपी (cupī, “dagger”), चोप्नु (copnu), चोपल्नु (copalnu), Bengali চোপসা (cōpośa), চুপসা (cupośa).
