Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘓𑘳𑘯 (ċuḷa), from Prakrit 𑀘𑀼𑀮𑀼𑀅 (culua), from Sanskrit चुलु (culu). Compare Gujarati ચળું (caḷũ), Hindustani چُلُّو (cullū) / चुल्लू (cullū), Sindhi چُرُو / चुरू, Punjabi ਚੁਲਾ (culā) / چُلا (culā), ਚੁਲੀ (culī) / چُلِی (culī), Odia ଚଳୁ (côḷu), Assamese চলু (solu).
