Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Aryan *gnáHs, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *gnáHs, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷnéh₂-. Cognate with Avestan 𐬔𐬆𐬥𐬀 (gəna), English queen. Doublet of जनि (jáni).
