Etymology
Of non-Indo-European, probably Dravidian origin; compare Tamil கண்டு (kaṇṭu, “hard candy”), கண்டம் (kaṇṭam), Malayalam കണ്ടം (kaṇṭaṁ), Tamil கட்டு (kaṭṭu, “to harden, condense”).[1] Watkins instead suggests a borrowing from Munda.[2]
