Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀓𑁄𑀭𑀟 (*koraḍa) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-). Cognate to Punjabi ਕੋਰੜਾ (korṛā), ਕੋੜਾ (koṛā), Nepali कोर्रा (korrā), Gujarati કોરડો (korḍo), Bengali কোড়া (kōṛa), Marathi कोरडा (korḍā).
