From Proto-Indo-Iranian *kís ~ čís, from Proto-Indo-European *kʷís. Cognate with Younger Avestan 𐬗𐬌𐬨 (cim), 𐬐𐬆𐬨 (kəm).[1] According to Mayrhofer, किस् (kis) is either an archaism or a Prakritism.
