Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀓𑀠𑀺𑀤 (kaḍhida), from Sanskrit क्वथित (kvathita, “boiled”). Compare Maithili कढ़ी (kaṛhī), Gujarati કઢી (kaḍhī), Marathi कढी (kaḍhī), Kannada ಕಢಿ (kaḍhi).
