Inherited from Old Marathi उठणे (uṭhaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀉𑀝𑁆𑀞𑀇 (uṭṭhaï), 𑀉𑀝𑁆𑀞𑁂𑀇 (uṭṭhei), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *utstʰā- (whence Sanskrit उत्तिष्ठति (úttiṣṭhati)). Cognate with Gujarati ઊઠવું (ūṭhavũ), Hindi उठना (uṭhnā), Nepali उठ्नु (uṭhnu), Assamese উঠা (utha).
