Etymology
Possibly from Middle Persian [script needed] (SLKʾ /šalgam/), ultimately from Ancient Greek σικελικόν (sikelikón, literally “the Sicilian one”). Doublet of ܣܠܩܐ (silqā, selqā); compare Persian شلغم (šalğam), Old Armenian շաղգամ (šałgam), Arabic شَلْجَم (šaljam), and Arabic سِلْق (silq).
