From Aramaic חַמְשַׁעְסַר (ḥaməšaʿəsar). Equivalent to ܚܲܡܫܵܐ (ḥamšā, “five”) + ܥܸܣܪܵܐ (ʿisrā, “ten”); compare Arabic خَمْسَةَ عَشَرَ (ḵamsata ʕašara) and Hebrew חֲמִשָּׁה עָשָׂר (khamishá 'asár).
