ܙܕܥ

From a variant of Aramaic זְוַּע (zəwaʿ), argued to be dissimilated from its Ithpalpal form אִתְזִיעַ (ʾiṯəzīʿa); compare similar Classical Syriac ܡܸܙܕܲܥܙܥܵܢܵܐ (mezdaʿz(ə)ʿānā, “moveable”) and ܙܵܘܹܥ (zāwēˁ, “to move”), also Turoyo ܙܳܝܰܥ (zōyaʿ, “to fear”).

ܙܵܕܹܥ • (zādēˁ) (present participle ܙܕܵܥܵܐ (zdāˁā), past participle ܙܕܝܼܥܵܐ (zdīˁā))

1. to fear, to be scared

   ܝܸܡܝܼ ܗܲܡܵܫܵܐ ܟܹܐ ܙܵܕܥܵܐ ܒܗ̇ܝ ܐܘܼܪܚܵܐ.

   yimī hammāšā kē zādˁā b-aya urḥā.

   My mother always gets scared on this road.

     Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

   ܠܵܐ ܙܵܕܥܝܼܬܘܿܢ ܡܸܢܹܗ

   lā zādˁītōn minnēh

   Don’t fear him.
