Etymology
Univerbation of ܕ (d-) + ܐܲܝܟ݂ (ayḵ, “as”), from Aramaic אַיךּ (ayk). In Old Aramaic, אַיךּ (ayk) was used in the adverbial sense of “how”. Compare also Hebrew אֵיךְ (éykh, “how”).
