Inherited from Common Turkic *geŋşek (loose, slack), a development of *geŋşe- (to become loose, slack), whence گوشمك (gevşemek, to become loose, slack). Related to گݣیش (geñiş, wide, spacious) and گیݣ (geñ, wide, broad).
