From Old Anatolian Turkish گُزَل (güzel, “beautiful”), from Common Turkic *közel (“beautiful”).
Cognate with Kyrgyz көсөл (kösöl), көзөл (közöl, “brave”), Uyghur گۈزەل (güzel), Uzbek goʻzal, Azerbaijani gözəl, Turkmen gözel (“beautiful”).
