From Middle Persian [script needed] (gwh /guh/), perhaps ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *g(ʷ)uH-. Cognate with Northern Kurdish gû, Northern Luri گی (gi), Proto-Slavic *govьno and Sanskrit गूथ (gūtha).
