From Middle Persian ndwhšytn' (niyō(x)šidan), from Proto-Iranian *ni- + *gáwšati, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *gʰáwšati. Compare Baluchi نگوشگ (negóšag), Sanskrit घोषति (ghoṣati).
