Etymology
From Aramaic נוקניק (nūqānīq), variant of לוקניק (lūqānīq), from Byzantine Greek λουκάνικον (loukánikon), λουκάνικα (loukánika), from Latin lūcānica (“sausage from Lūcānia”). Cognate to Greek λουκάνικο (loukániko), Persian نکانک (nakânak); influenced Hebrew נַקְנִיק (naqnīq).
