From Middle Persian [script needed] (mdk' /⁠ma(y)ik⁠/), from Proto-Iranian *madika, a variant of Proto-Iranian *madaxa (“locust, grasshopper”), and thus related to (malax); see there for further information.

The second component is from Middle Persian [Term?] (/⁠-ūg⁠/, “-like”).
