Apparently a Dravidian borrowing, compare Telugu మొగలి (mogali), Tamil முசலி (mucali) meaning apart from other things screw pine. Passed also into Jewish Babylonian Aramaic מוקלא and Classical Syriac ܡܘܩܠܐ (muqlā) already witnessed from the 5th century.
