A Western European plant rarely known in Arabic lands, hence “Frankish”, which is an epithet added to any plant that is perceived as Western European, and this name has been formed already in medieval times. So also Ottoman Turkish فرنك معدنوسی (frenk maydanozu, garden chervil, Anthriscus cerefolium), Turkish frenk maydanozu, and even Greek φραγκομαϊντανός (fragkomaïntanós) for the same plant.
