Etymology

Unknown or disputed. A legend claims to be inherited from Sanskrit लव (lava, Lava) + पुर (pura, fortress; city), literally city of Lava, from Ramayana, a Hindu epic.[1]. Compare Kashmiri لوہوٗر (lohūr) and Urdu لاہَوْر (lāhaur).
