Etymology
From Proto-Turkic *küreĺ- (“to wrestle, to struggle, to fight”),[1][2] from *kür (“courageous, bold”).[3] Cognates with Turkish güreş (“wrestling”), Southern Altai кӱреш (küreš), Kyrgyz күрөш (küröş).
