• كَيْلُون (kaylūn)

An unclassical word, apparently applying the vulgar tool pattern فَاعُول (fāʕūl) to Ancient Greek χαλινός (khalinós, “bit; thong; part of the tackle of a ship; anything that restrains from the outer”). Also passed into Classical Syriac ܟܠܴܢܳܐ (klānā, “bar or bolt for fastening doors, sera”).

1. lock installed onto something; padlock
   • 2017 January 22, “8 نَصَائِحَ لِحِمَايَةِ شَقَّتِكَ مِنَ ٱلسَّرِقَةِ .. تَعَرَّفْ عَلَيْهَا [8 naṣāʔiḥa liḥimāyati šaqqatika mina s-sariqati .. taʕarraf ʕalayhā, 8 advices for the security of your apartment from thieves … learn them]”, in Al-Maṣr Al-Yawm‎:

     4 ـ تَرْكِيبُ كَالُونِ أَمَانٍ وَعَدَمُ ٱلْاِعْتِمَادِ عَلَى كَالُونٍ وَاحِدٍ عَلَى بَابِ شَقَّتِكَ.

     4 - tarkību kālūni ʔamānin waʕadamu l-iʕtimādi ʕalā kālūnin wāḥidin ʕalā bābi šaqqatika.

     4. Installation of security locks and not relying onto a single lock on the door of your apartment.
