Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *kork- (to be afraid, to fear); cognate with Azerbaijani qorxmaq, Chuvash хӑра (hăra), Kazakh қорқу (qorqu), Kyrgyz коркуу (korkuu), Tatar курку (qurku), Turkmen gorkmak and Uzbek qoʻrqmoq.
