Inherited from Proto-Turkic *kïragu (“frost, hoarfrost”); cognate with Azerbaijani qırov, Bashkir ҡырау (qıraw), Kazakh қырау (qyrau), Kyrgyz кыроо (kıroo), Tuvan хыраа (xıraa) and Uzbek qirov.
